Costco Hepatitis A Berries- What To Do

I’m sure by now many of you have heard about the outbreak of Hepatitis A linked to Costco’s Townsend Farms Organic Antioxidant Blend Frozen Berries. I find it both sad and convenient for two different reasons. Sad of course because so many people who are trying to eat healthier and spend extra to specifically purchase the organic mixed berries bag instead of the regular ones, are now disheartened. And convenient because this incidence not only makes organic foods look unsafe, but it was the perfect reason to push the Hepatitis A Vaccine at everyone and their mother, and conveniently for free of course!

I know we all have different opinions on vaccines, and I save my thoughts for those who really want to hear them. Today, I want to share with you my recommendations for what to do if you have eaten some of these berries and potentially been exposed to the Hep A virus.

 

1. DON’T FREAK OUT

  • Let’s face the reality that what’s done is done. Stressing out about what happened is not going to help anything, but actually decrease your immune system instead, so be calm and by integrating the recommendations below know that you are empowering your body to overcome just about any virus, not just Hep A! How cool is that!

2. Cut out the immune system offenders

  • You have a machine inside of you that is the MOST powerful tool against viruses, cancers, diseases, pain, etc…it’s your IMMUNE SYSTEM. When we fall prey to one of these “bad guys” it’s usually because our immune system isn’t working properly and has become too burdened by toxins. Here are some of the top Immune System Offenders…
    • SUGAR- Read labels!
    • GLUTEN- Damages the gut (where 80% of the immune system is), turns into sugar right after you eat it, and encourages inflammation.
    • “DIRTY” DAIRY- regular pasteurized dairy is FULL of nasty things you don’t even want to know about, so just trust me on this one! It increases mucous formation in the gut and is inflammatory in the body.
    • GMO Foods- (Genetically Modified Organisms)  My brotha/sista, if you don’t know about this, you need to start reading! These dangerous franken-foods have the ability to splice your DNA, give you cancers, grow tumors, and make you sterile for life! NOTHING to mess around with!
    • TOXIC CHEMICALS ON YOUR SKIN!- These go directly into the blood stream, so PLEASE be careful what you put on your skin and switch over to non-toxic alternatives

3. SUNRIDER FOODS

  •  If you haven’t read the testimony I recently posted about a man who was able to completely get rid of his Hepatitis-C & liver failure, PLEASE READ IT HERE!
  • As you have heard me say before, the Sunrider Foods are THE MOST amazing tools I have EVER food to heal our bodies. After those 20 minutes, you can put on a 30 SPF  NON-TOXIC sunscreen to prevent burning, because we don’t want that either. 🙂

6. Get plenty of rest & hydrate

  • And as usual, make sure you’re sleeping well and staying hydrated with pure mineral rich water. You should be drinking half of your body weight in ounces of water, so…if you weigh 150lbs, you should be drinking 75oz of water per day. That is NO 8-8oz cups is it? 🙂 Dehydration is a massive stressor on the body, so pay attention to that. 🙂 And try to get at least 7 hours of good sleep each night if you can.

7. Homeopathic Hepatitis A Nosode

  • This is something you may have never heard of before, but in homeopathic medicine (the most effective, non-toxic medicine on the planet!), you can get what is called a nosode of a particular virus or illness. The Nosode works as all homeopathic remedies do to help your body get rid of the condition. 7 Solutions for Nausea & Vomiting

In my 4-month program, “The Empowered Woman”, I am beginning to do case studies with my group. In these case studies, we take a situation which we will all encounter at one point or another with ourselves or our family’s, and I walk them through my thought process and how I would immediately go about remedying the situation.

The other day we did one on nausea & vomiting. This week, I thought I’d give you a sneak peek into what these ladies are learning and share my solutions with you on this particular situation.

With the resources I have, here is what I would do if myself or a family member was experiencing nausea or vomiting…

1. Find the right homeopathic remedy.

This is tough to do without some education in homeopathy. Homeopathy is INCREDIBLE…BUT.. if you choose the wrong remedy it will not help at all. You see, with homeopathy, there may be 10 people who are all experiencing nausea & vomiting, but if they are caused by different symptoms, they all will need a different remedy. It all depends on looking at the whole picture. A remedy for food poisoning is different than a remedy for motion sickness which is different from a remedy for nausea with anxiety. To make matters simple. Here are some of the top nausea/vomiting remedies. For dosing, I would do 3 pellets every 15 minutes for the first hour and then slowly spread it out to 3 pellets every 30 minutes…then every hour…every two hours…etc. as needed.

Ipecac- for general nausea & vomiting
Arsenicum Album- For food poisoning & “traveler’s diarrhea” usually with accompanying anxiety.
Nux Vomica- For nausea, stomach pain, bloating, headache, usually from overdoing it with food or alcohol.

2. Drink Fortune Delight

Fortune Delight is an herbal beverage from the company Sunrider. I ALWAYS have Fortune Delight on hand because it is my “go-to” tool when I eat something that doesn’t settle write, feel sick to my stomach, or have any digestive issues. It ALWAYS helps me. For someone who is vomiting, it is particularly beneficial because it helps restore electrolyte balance and prevent severe dehydration. My favorite way to drink it is usually warm with 1/2 of a lemon squeezed into it and sweetened with stevia. Drink this as much as you’d like to help with digestive discomfort.

 

3. DON’T USE SPRITE & SALTINES!

 

I know…I know…I was raised being given these two by my nana when I had an upset stomach. Sprite however is LOADED with sugar as you know, which will feed infection and heavily strain the immune system, and Saltines are packed with severely damaging hydrogenated oils, refined salt, and bleached nutrient depleted flours that will make the body very unhappy.

What to use INSTEAD…Homemade “Sprite”- Find some sparkling mineral water in a glass bottle and add fresh lemon or lime juice, depending on the amount of water you can add 1-2 lemons or limes. Sweeten with stevia (preferably Sunrider’s Sunnydew stevia for added nutrient benefits). You can also use raw honey instead but it is difficult to mix into cold beverages. You have just made a DELICIOUS homemade sprite!Instead of Saltines, use gluten-free crackers or toast. Sprinkle some Himalayan salt on the crackers or toast. The high quality salt will help replenish minerals that may have been lost due to vomiting.

 

4. Aloe Pulp or Herbal Aloe Force

 

Aloe. Is. Amazing. It is such a soothing and healing tool God put on this earth for us to use. Unfortunately there are thousands of aloe products out there that are filled with JUNK. This is why I only recommend either purchasing an aloe plant and squeezing out the pulp from the leaves and consuming it this way, or going with Herbal Aloe Force. There may be other great aloe products out there that I am not aware of. All I know is that I don’t want any harmful added ingredients and I don’t want it pasteurized or all of the nutrients will be killed. Consume as needed.

 

5. Look at the Liver/Gallbladder

If your nausea and/or vomiting is a chronic issue that happens more than every once and a while, then we need to look at the root of the problem and figure out what the cause is. The cause is NEVER a medication deficiency. Sure, medication may help put a bandaid on the symptoms, but you have to remember symptoms are a blessing! They tell us when something is wrong so we could fix it. Pain for instance is a huge blessing. If we couldn’t feel pain, we would never know if our hand is burning because we placed it on a hot stove. See my point? Liver congestion may be the culprit behind chronic nausea. Those of you who wake up each morning nauseous and usually avoid breakfast because the thought of it makes you sick…that’s usually because your liver is a bit congested. Our liver detoxes itself throughout the night and when it’s full of toxins, sometimes it will make you sick. Drink some warm water with fresh lemon juice every morning, first thing to help stimulate liver function. Also try not to eat a super heavy dinner late at night. This will give your liver a better chance to do it’s magic. Cleaning up your diet is also key.

 

6. Re-mineralize the Body

Many times the body becomes depleted in minerals when sick, especially when vomiting. Restoring this mineral & electrolyte balance is key to keeping the body strong. You can do this in a variety of ways:

  • Put a pinch of Himalayan Salt on the tongue.
  • Drink fresh young thai coconut water (from the coconut).
  • Take a mineral supplement such as Sunwarrior’s liquid light.

 

7. Down the Probiotics

No matter what the cause of your nausea & vomiting, there is something going on in your gut. Probiotics come in to help sweep out the bad guys and get you better faster. One of my favorite sources of a strong probiotic is Inner-Eco. It is not only FULL of strong probiotics, but minerals as well! I personally would drink the entire bottle as you can.

Clogged Tubes? The Top 10 Culprits of Constipation

Being the beginning of the year, many of you are determined to live a healthier life & lose weight, so I thought I’d talk about one of the huge factors that may be standing in the way of getting rid of the ole’ tire around the waste. Yep, we’re getting real. We’re getting personal. We’re talking about poop! In nursing school, I was taught that anywhere between having a BM (bowel movement) 3 times per day to every 3 days was considered “normal”. Sorry nursing school, but that just can’t be right. Think about it. How many times do we eat??? ATLEAST 3 times, and for most people it is 3 meals and 3 snacks. How does it make sense for us to eat that much food and only eliminate once every 3 days? That’s just silly! The truth is, optimally, we should be going to the bathroom atleast 3 times per day. I know…I know…you’re thinking, Jessica Angelina Lopez, you are CRAZY! I promise I’m not trippin guys. It’s true! For OPTIMAL health, to feel your best, have lasting energy, clear skin, a healthy liver, a flawless digestive tract, this is what should be happening.

Here are the TOP 10 reasons our tubes get clogged…

1. Magnesium Deficiency-

Magnesium is ESSENTIAL for smooth muscle contraction, including the heart and the wave like motion (called peristalsis) that pushes food through the digestive tract. A deficiency leads to poor digestive function including constipation.

2. Leaky-Gut Syndrome-

This refers to an intestinal wall with microscopic holes in it from yeast, fungal, and parasite damage from a poor diet and candida overgrowth. Small particles of food and toxins get through these holes causing a myriad of problems in the body, and one of them being constipation. Unfortunately constipation also causes leaky gut syndrome, and it must be dealt with immediately- This is where my epic health programs come in!!

3. Lazy Colon-

Have you ever tried laxatives or even natural herbs and herbal teas such as cascara sagrada and senna leaf? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but all of those options are no good for solving the problem of constipation. Unfortunately back in the day I was a victim of these teas and colon cleanses that force the colon to expel. When you use these methods, especially over a long period of time, your colon basically says “screw you”, and stops working on it’s own, hence the term “lazy colon”. The only way to retrain your colon is through a series of colonics or colon hydrotherapy.

4. Lack of fiber-

You MUST get in loads of fiber on a daily basis. We are NOT talking about Metamucil or the average fiber chews you get at Walmart. I’m talking about REAL FOOD FIBER! Chia seeds, flax seeds, the 4 seed-like grains (quinoa, millet, amaranth, buckwheat), lots of vegetables and some low-sugar fruits, and some approved fiber products from trusted sources such as Renew Life, Garden of Life, or Dr. Mercola.

5. Lack of fat-

“But Jessica, I’m trying to lose fat!”, Oh I know! BUT EATING GOOD FAT IS KEY TO LOSING BAD FAT! Especially when it comes to cleaning your colon. Think of it as oiling up the tubes. Let’s just say it keeps things sailing smoothly. 🙂

6. Clogged Liver & Gallbladder

If your liver and gallbladder are clogged up, it will be nearly impossible to have a functioning digestive system and even harder to lose weight. It is CRUCIAL to take care of these organs. In my health coaching programs, such as The Empowered Woman, I safely teach each person how to cleanse their liver and gallbladder. It is built into my programs to ensure each person is ready for this step. Cleansing and detoxing CAN BE DANGEROUS! So, make sure if you do this, you are working with someone who knows your body very well and can tell if you are ready or not.

 7. Hormone Imbalance

There is alot to know when it comes to hormonal balance and it dramatically affects your metabolism and digestive system. If your adrenal glands are shot and your thyroid is slow, you will nearly always struggle with constipation. It is ESSENTIAL to support these areas, and when you do…whoa nelly will you see an improvement in your life!

8. Candida-

Oh Candida how I loathe thee…I cannot tell you how THANKFUL I am to have all the tools I need to keep candida in it’s place, and that is NOT in my body! Candia Albicans is a bacteria from the devil that can completely take over your body causing you to feel all sorts of bad things from serious digestive disease, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, foggy head, indigestion, severe fatigue, adrenal exhaustion, endometriosis, infertility…I mean really, it’s bad news bears. This is one of the TOP reasons for constipation. Ridding the body of it is a complex process, but can always be beat, I don’t care what your situation is. This is where I come in to battle with you in the trenches. Together we can DEFEAT candida! 🙂

9.Dehydration-

A dehydrated gut will not work. Period. Shoot, a dehydrated body will not work! DRINK WATER PEOPLE! And not just any water. You need to be drinking fresh alkaline spring water to be exact. This is SO important, that I devote an ENTIRE week to water in my program!

10. Stress-

What happens when you get nervous? What do you feel in your stomach? Knots? Butterflies? Sick to your stomach? Think about it, your BRAIN feels nervous and your STOMACH feels sick. See the correlation? Stress depletes your body of magnesium first of all, but it completely shuts down many of your body’s systems to prepare you for something intense. This is why it is called “fight or flight” system. Your sympathetic nervous system is ignited when you are stressed causing a chain reaction of events to occur in your body preparing you to run away from a bear, give you super powers to fight a mountain lion, or lift a car…I know extreme, but get my point? This is NOT the optimal situation to make sure you are pooping properly. Well, for some people I guess it encourages the situation since we have the expression ” I’m going to crap my pants” when someone is scared. But for the most part, it shuts down your systems so all the blood goes to your extremities to give you the maximum energy to do what you need to, to survive. So, slow down and relax to dramatically improve your digestion. PLUS this is crucial for anyone wanting to lose weight. Stress causes that cortisol tire around the waste.

Now that you know the biggest culprits, on top of addressing each of the areas above, here are my personal favorites for fixing the problem. You can Google each of these for more info-

Weight Loss Wednesday- #1 Fat Burning Organ in the Body- The LIVER

Happy Wednesday!

I hope your week is going well! Time sure is flying isn’t it? Today, I want to talk to you about the liver and it’s relationship with effective weight loss. The liver is known as the “gatekeeper” of the body. It is responsible for filtering out the body’s toxins. In fact, every 3 minutes, the liver filters all the blood in the body! Isn’t that amazing! When the liver is clogged up and running slowly, it causes a domino effect in the body effecting just about everything… digestion, hormones, blood sugars, adrenal glands, energy, immune system, and more. One of the most common suicide avenues is swallowing a bottle of Tylenol. It is so common because people know that Tylenol kills your liver and if your liver is severely damaged and stops functioning, the rest of your body quickly shuts down.

What causes a clogged liver?

The major culprit for fatty liver is what you’re putting in your body. That could be an unhealthy diet, alcohol, drugs, medications, sugar, etc. Whenever you consume these toxic substances, it can get to a point where the body can’t store fat fast enough and begins storing it in the liver. This is known as a “fatty liver”. The liver is known as a filtration device, if it is being pounded day after day after day with unhealthy fats, sugars, and toxins, it starts to get backed up because it can’t efficiently filter out everything as fast as it’s coming in. This can cause stones, sludge, and all sorts of complications that slows down the liver, furthermore, slowing down your metabolism, increasing your waistline, and wreaking havoc on the body.

What about the Gallbladder?

Did you know that over 600,000 Americans have their gallbladder’s yanked out of them each year! That is MIND BLOWING! This 45 minute surgery costs a whopping $30,000!! Talk about a good salary! $30k per hour, eh? Not too shabby!

Unfortunately, I have been a culprit of the nation-wide gallbladder hijacking. I wish I knew then what I know now in order to prevent this unfortunate surgery, but now I am determined to help people live a healthy and normal life afterwards. The truth is that after my gallbladder surgery, my problems DID NOT go away, but worsened. I know have to put in 10 times the effort in my health in order to feel good. So, if anyone ever tells you the gallbladder is not necessary, tell them they are crazy. Who are we to say that God made a mistake in creating our bodies…I don’t think so!

Back to the liver…when the liver is overburdened, it spills over into the gallbladder. This is what causes so many problems with the gallbladder and creates gallstones. Behind every bad gallbladder is a toxic liver. So, how do you prevent gallbladder surgery & disease? Take care of your liver and make sure to clean them both out.

 Congested Liver & Diabetes

The excess leptin production from the excess of stored fat from a congested liver causes a decrease in the hormone adiponectin. Low adiponectin causes insulin resistance in the liver, which raises blood sugar levels and simultaneously converts sugar to fat in the liver. When this happens, your liver cannot process carbohydrates effectively, causing easy weight gain. Having a fatty liver elevates the risk for type 2 diabetes by 500 percent. Fluctuating or high blood sugar levels and excess body weight are indicative of a fatty liver. If you are able to eat carbohydrates and do not gain any weight, it is a sign that your liver is functioning better than if you easily gain weight from carbohydrates.

Clogged Liver & Fat Metabolism

I can first hand tell you the issue with having no gallbladder, a clogged liver and digesting fats. Before my surgery, I had a horrible time digesting fats…well, anything really. And after the surgery, before I took care of my liver, if I ate something like an avocado or frozen yogurt, anything that had a good amount of fat in it, it would come right back up through reflux. So gross, I know, but the reality of the fact was that I could not digest these fats and they sat in my stomach.

Fats are incredibly important for many different processes in the body- your hormones, brain function, muscle restoration, metabolism, and more. Even if you are eating healthy fats, if you have a congested liver, your body may not be able to breakdown these fats into fatty acids and absorb them to be used as fuel. When the fats are not used as fuel, they tend to be stored as fat. So, if you notice you have a difficult time digesting fats, you may want to give some extra TLC to your liver and gallbladder.

Cholesterol, Triglycerides & The Liver

Did you know that your liver makes 80% of your cholesterol?? Most of the time high cholesterol levels in the blood don’t come from eating foods that contain cholesterol- unless you’re eating processed unhealthy foods! For instance, grass-fed beef and raw butter from grass-fed cows contain cholesterol, but they are healthy sources. YOUR BODY NEEDS CHOLESTEROL for healthy hormonal function.

I think it’s quite interesting when people are prescribed medications for their high cholesterol and triglycerides. Why? Because this medication is harming the liver. If you want to HEAL the real reason behind high cholesterol & triglycerides, one needs to heal the liver, not harm it some more. When you do this, the levels will return to normal on their own. If you change your eating pattern and are eating clean, whole, nutrient dense foods, and your triglyceride levels remain elevated, it is indicative of a clogged liver. We must not forget how POWERFUL the body is when it comes to knowing how to heal itself. It just needs the right tools!

Lack of Exercise- Effects on Liver

If you are consistently exercising, your muscles need fuel to regenerate and keep functioning. In this case, your liver can send fuel to help. If you are sedentary for long periods of time, your liver has nowhere to send the excess fat & sugar. Your liver is actually drowning in excess fat & sugar, and as a worst case scenario, it is forced to unnaturally dump excess calories back into the digestive tract. This process is definitely NOT what our bodies were designed to do. We were never intended to be poisoned by excess calories, yet this is becoming more and more common.

In order to achieve this magical process, your body needs to create extra cholesterol and bile to export the excess fat into the digestive tract. This causes increased levels of LDL (Bad cholesterol) and can cause indigestion & heartburn. The excessive amounts of bile produced can be damaging to the small intestine causing leaky gut syndrome, food allergies, and many digestive disorders including acid reflux. This is one reason why antacids never heal the real issue. It’s the liver that must be addressed in many digestive issues. These digestive disorders almost always cause an expanding waistline due to the inefficient digestion of food, which leads to bloating and inflammation.

Effects of Stress on the Liver

When we are stressed, it causes the hormone Cortisol, from our adrenal glands to increase. Studies have shown that when there is an increase in Cortisol, it increases a protein in your liver (HES1), which shuts of fat metabolism in the liver and contributes to weight gain as well as fatty liver.

How the Digestive System Effects the Liver

Not only does a congested liver effect digestion, but if you have a damaged digestive system, it causes another metabolic stressor that can lead to an inefficient liver. A proper balance of good-bad bacteria is essential for liver health, which is one reason why probiotics and cultured foods are so important.

  • Constipation wreaks havoc on everything. Getting a series of colon hydrotherapy (colonics) are a great resource to clean out the colon and get the liver flowing again! You can also do coffee enemas at home with your very own enema bag. This has been proven to clean out the liver and stimulate liver function. Read more here…

7. HERBS

  • There are many herbs that have shown to help the liver. Some of the most popular ones are: Dandelion root & Milk Thistle. There are also some great liver cleanses out there. I personally love the one from Advanced Naturals. I don’t recommend doing this without someone guiding you throughout it. If you are interested in working with me, I would love to guide you through healing your liver properly and ensuring your body is ready for each step. If you rush into a cleansing protocol, you can cause more harm than good. So, please do not do this on your own.

8. EXERCISE

  • Constant exercise is incredible beneficial to unclog your liver, as you learned above. A mix of HIIT- High Intensity Interval Training as well as Weight Training is most effective. No matter what your level of fitness, being active to some extent every day is highly recommended.

9. AVOID TOXINS

  • Obviously, this is one of the most important steps. Stop pouring toxins into your body. The top culprits of liver damage are: sugar, unhealthy fats, gluten, processed foods, dairy, non-organic animal proteins, alcohol, coffee (moderate amounts of organic coffee are ok), and non-organic produce covered with pesticides.

10.HYDRATION

  • When you don’t drink enough water, your blood becomes thicker, which makes it much more difficult for the liver to filter all of the blood in your body every 3 minutes. Bile is also created mostly of water, so dehydration puts a real downer on liver function and digestion. Make sure you are drinking CLEAN water, preferably not from plastic bottles, unless they are BPA free.
